Orchestra 1756 & its soloists

Vivaldi on period instruments.

The ORCHESTRA 1756 was founded by conductor and harpsichordist Konstantin Hiller in 2006 in Salzburg. In Mozart's city, Salzburg, there is now for the first time a permanent orchestra that plays on "original instruments" and extensively deals with the stylistics and rhetoric of the music of the 17th and 18th century. Since 2014, Greek violinist Dimitris Karakantas has contributed to the further development of Orchestra 1756 as concertmaster, soloist and director of performances of the "Four Seasons".

The ensemble was able to collaborate with leading artistic personalities. It has performed at the "National Center of Performing Arts Beijing" (with Daniel Kotlinski and Julia Novikova), at the "Int. Tartini-Festival Piran" (with Christophe Coin, Sergio Azziolini, Bozena Angelova, Roberto Gonzales, Sheng-Fang Chiu), in the great hall of the Mozarteum Salzburg (with Giulio Carmignola), in the Mirabell Palace Salzburg (with Vittorio Ghielmi, Christoph Urbanetz and many others), at the Mozart Festival Bratislava, the "Stars and Rising Stars Festival" with Mojca Erdmann and Vesselina Kasarova as well as a more than acclaimed appearance at the "Bad Kissinger Sommer" (with Nicolas Spanos and Dimitris Karakantas), where the ensemble was described by the press as "one of the best baroque orchestras of the last 30 years". CDs with numerous first recordings (including Mozart "Requiem", Leopold Mozart "Letters and Trio Sonatas op.1" with Peter Simonischek, Vivaldi "The Four Seasons", Scarlatti "Il martirio della St. Cecilia") have been released by the Atlantis resurrexit label.

Since 2008 the Orchestra 1756 has been playing in the Karlskirche in Vienna and may nowadays consider it as its musical home.
